The problem
Look at your cutting board.
Every board you own is a record of everything you have ever cut on it. That is the part nobody mentions when they sell you one.
-
01
Knife scars
Every cut leaves a groove. Grooves hold moisture, biofilm, bacteria, and pathogens — no amount of scrubbing reaches the bottom of one.
-
02
Bits in your food
Plastic boards shed flecks. Wooden boards shed fibres. Both end up in whatever you are making.
-
03
Nowhere to put it
A board big enough to break down a chicken on does not fit in a drawer, a dishwasher, or a small kitchen.
The answer
One sheet. No grooves. Bends when you need it to.
Lay a CleanCut sheet on your counter or over a board you already own and start cutting. The embossed underside grips, so nothing slides while you break down chicken. When you are done, bend it into a curve and the whole lot slides straight into the pan.
- Stays smooth
- The surface does not groove, so knife scars never build up the way it does on wood or plastic.
- Dishwasher safe
- Top or bottom rack. Comes out flat, goes back in the drawer.
- Grips the counter
- The embossed underside holds the surface. No tea towel underneath, no sliding.
- Stores flat
- It lies flat in a drawer with the tea towels. No rack, no propping it against the backsplash.
Cut to order
Any size you want. Same price.
We make the sheets ourselves, so we can cut them. Pick one of the three sizes below or tell us your own — anything from six inches square up to the full eighteen by twelve, in whole inches — and we cut it here before it ships.
A rigid board is the size the factory made it. Yours is whatever size your kitchen needs.

An independent lab pressed ground beef onto CleanCut and onto a polypropylene cutting board, left it up to ninety minutes, then washed both the same way. Washing removed 2.77 log CFU/mL from CleanCut and 1.64 log from the plastic — so for the same contamination, washing left roughly thirteen times more bacteria behind on the plastic board.
BIO|FOOD|TECH, Charlottetown, March 2019, project 5-18-022, commissioned by Dennis Arsenault. Aerobic plate count, compared against polypropylene only. It measures what washing removes, not any antibacterial action — CleanCut has none and claims none.
CFIA compliant
The surface meets Canadian Food Inspection Agency requirements for food contact. It has been used in commercial kitchens for years before we brought it home.
We make it ourselves
Manufactured in Kensington, Prince Edward Island, Canada, by the people who developed it. That is also why we can cut it to any size you want.
No forever chemicals
A polyethylene sheet. No PTFE, no PFAS, nothing with a half-life. It is recyclable at the end of its life. Check whether your local programme takes rigid polyethylene, because what is accepted varies by municipality.
What people use it for
Chicken on Tuesday, fruit on Saturday.
Raw protein
Break down a chicken on it, then put it in the dishwasher. No grooves means nothing stays behind where you cannot reach it.
Everyday prep
Onions, herbs, a lime for the pan. Bend the sheet and everything slides in at once instead of chasing it with the knife.
Small kitchens
It lies flat in a drawer with the tea towels. If your counter is the size of a chopping board, this is the one that fits.
Packs
Most people start with five.
One in the drawer, one on the counter, and spares for when you are cooking for people.

Our story
Dennis started this because food should not make people sick.
Dennis Arsenault spent thirty years working in plastics. He knew what happened to a cutting board after a year of service, and he did not think a home cook should have to accept it.
So he built a surface that does not groove, and then — before he had anything to sell to anyone's kitchen — he paid an independent lab in Charlottetown to find out whether it actually worked. That is the kind of person he was. Joyful about it, too.
Dennis died in 2026. We are carrying on what he started, out of the same building in Kensington, Prince Edward Island, Canada.
Questions
The things people ask.
The honest answers, including the ones where the answer is “we don’t know yet”. There are about seventy more on the full FAQ page.
How many washes does one sheet last?
Hundreds. The surface does not groove the way plastic and wood do, so it never builds up the knife scars that make you look at a board one day and decide it has had its life — and scarring, rather than the material giving out, is usually what ends a board.
You replace a sheet when you can feel a groove with a fingernail, or when a corner has torn.
How does a custom size work?
Choose Custom size on the product page and type the width and height you want, anywhere from 6″ × 6″ up to the full 18″ × 12″, in whole inches. We cut it here in Kensington after you order. Same price as every other size, no cutting charge, and about a day before it ships.
Will it dull my knives?
No. The sheet is much softer than your steel, which is the whole point of a cutting surface — the surface should give, not the edge. It is softer than a plastic board and nothing like glass or stone, which are the surfaces that genuinely ruin an edge.
One thing worth knowing, because it is true of any thin sheet: it is a few hundredths of an inch thick, so a heavy cut can reach whatever is underneath. On wood or laminate that does not matter. On granite or quartz, lay it over a board if your knives matter to you.
Won't a thin sheet slide around?
It stays put. The underside is embossed, and that pattern grips the counter — no damp tea towel underneath, no chasing it across the worktop while you work. It is the part we spent the most time getting right.
Is it dishwasher safe?
Yes, top rack or bottom, and it comes out flat. Nothing to warp, nothing to season, nothing to oil. By hand it is dish soap and ten seconds, because there are no grooves to dig into.
Heat from the other direction is the thing to avoid: it is a cutting surface, not a trivet, so keep it away from hot pans and lit burners.
What happens to it at the end of its life?
It is recyclable. Rinse it, let it dry, and check what your municipal programme takes, because acceptance varies by municipality — if kerbside does not take rigid polyethylene, a depot or store drop-off point usually will.
It is not compostable and we will not pretend otherwise. It is a durable plastic, built to last hundreds of washes and then be recycled, which is a smaller footprint than a procession of scarred boards into landfill.
Has it actually been tested?
Yes, and not by us. BIO|FOOD|TECH in Charlottetown pressed ground beef onto CleanCut and onto a polypropylene cutting board, left it there for up to ninety minutes, washed both the same way, and counted what survived. Washing removed 2.77 log CFU/mL from CleanCut against 1.64 log from the plastic board — for the same contamination, roughly thirteen times more bacteria stay on the plastic after washing.
Two honest limits, because they matter as much as the headline. The comparison is with polypropylene, so it tells you nothing about wood. And it measures what washing takes away, not any antibacterial action — CleanCut has none and claims none. The surface simply gives bacteria nowhere to hide, so an ordinary wash gets more of them.
Can I cut raw chicken on it?
Yes. That is exactly what it is for. Break the bird down, then send the sheet through the dishwasher or wash it by hand. The same surface has been used in inspected commercial kitchens for years and meets CFIA requirements for food contact. Plenty of people keep one sheet for protein and another for everything else — which is a large part of why the five-pack exists.
What is it made of?
A polyethylene sheet, made by us rather than bought in. No PTFE, no PFAS, no fluoropolymers, no BPA — nothing with a half-life and nothing to leach. The same surface has been used in inspected commercial kitchens for years.
Where does it ship from, and what does shipping cost?
From Kensington, Prince Edward Island, Canada, where we make it. Shipping is free anywhere in Canada, with no minimum and no threshold to reach. Stock sizes usually leave within one to two business days, and a custom cut adds about one more. We are not shipping outside Canada yet — if you want us to, tell us, because that is how we decide what to do next.
Still wondering about something? Write to us — a person who has actually used the sheet reads it, and usually replies within a business day.
